Hi everyone, getting ready to replace the brake rotors and pads. I am looking for a little clarification as I have seen some different procedures over the years when researching going through threads on brake service mode.
Most of it seems to revolve around issues with the front brakes and break service mode, if it is needed or not. Seems like at one point in time it was recommended and now it’s not.
So, in a nut shell is this the current preferred method?
Front brakes, brake service mode is not needed.
Standard brake job, can compress the brake caliper pistons like any other brake job.
change pads/rotors.
Rear brakes, brake service mode must be used.
It will automatically compress the rear brake pistons in for pad replacement.
Once in brake service mode, unplug electrical connector on caliper, change pads/rotors, plug electrical connector bag in.
Once completed, exit brake service mode. Pistons will automatically reset and “calibrate” to the new thicker pads for proper function.
To enter brake service mode.
Turn the ignition ON, press/hold the accelerator pedal, and hold the electric park brake switch DOWN. Turn the ignition OFF, then back ON within 5 seconds, still holding the pedal. A message will appear on the dash saying "brake maintenance mode".
To exit brake service mode.
Turn the ignition ON, press/hold the accelerator pedal, and hold the electric park brake switch UP. Turn the ignition OFF, then back ON within 5 seconds, still holding the pedal. The brake light will go off/clear.
