Did Standard ST brake conversion to PIU Brakes

Spent my Thursday doing a Standard ST brake swap to PIU Brakes. PIU brakes are the same as the street pack brakes, just not powder Coated or zinc plated like standard brake ST calipers. You will need to paint or powder coat them. I used high temp paint a primer. If you have a Forscan it makes the brakes bleed and calibration easier.

I scored my calipers and brackets off a 27K wrecked PIU on eBay. I paid roughly $300 for the calipers and brackets.

I ordered the brake splash shields from Ford. They would’ve cost $120. I had Ford cash I used to pay for most of it. Some people say you can just hack up the OEM standard brake shields. But I see no way to do that without having basically no splash shield left.

Front Right Splash Shield – L1MZ2K004N

MotorCraft Part Numbers – RockAuto
1. Front Right Caliper Bracket – BRBF19
2. Front Left Caliper Bracket – BRBF18
3. Rear Right Caliper Bracket – BRBCR62
4. Rear Left Caliper Bracket – BRBCR63
5. Rear Right Caliper – BRCF550 – You will need to swap EB Module
6. Rear Left Caliper – BRCF551 – You will need to swap EB Module
7. Front Right Caliper – BRCF555
8. Front Left Caliper – BRCF517


The best option is to find a wrecked PIU and buy the parts off it..

Total cost of my install –
Calipers and Brackets (Off eBay) $305.00
Splash Shields from Ford - $120.00 - Had $110.00 in Ford $$$ cost me $10.00
Brake Kit Rotors and Pads (RockAuto) $380.00 – There are Cheaper Options Wanted Coated Rotors, I live in NJ.
Paint and MISC - $40.00
Total - $735.00


Lesson Learned

1. When you install calipers with no brake fluid in them, your ABS system is going to have a conniption fit. Once it cycles through and you get the fluid there, it will calm down.

2. Make sure you have the front caliper bolts for the PIU brakes. They are larger than standard brakes.

3. When doing the new splash shields the front bolt right up, they rear you have to trim the caliper shield area on the splash shield (see photos) or you would have to to remove the hub

4. Have plenty of DOT4 brake fluid available.

5. This is also a great time to flush your brake fluid. Mine had 97K miles on it. It was a little dark.

6. Take your time and do it right remember, this is what stops your vehicle.

Great write up. I’d also add to make sure to unplug the battery, these cars tend to get a little touchy about codes when messing with the brakes.

I just added about having a forscan It made it a lot easier.
