Don't look now, but that's direct to the battery.

It’s on the other side of the sensor though. So it should be fine. The sensor is going to see the flow of power and acknowledge that it’s being charged. At least that’s my take away from watching that video.

This ^^^^ is how it works. When you connect to the sensor it measures the current into the battery. If direct to the battery terminal the sensor can’t “see” it.

My instance that has me a little hesistant is - I'm flying internationally next month and my Explorer will sit outside for 2 weeks. Since it'll be in another country, and not near a outlet it will probably be in deep-sleep. Thoughts? The idea I had was to rent a car.

For me, “deep sleep” is just a nuisance. I’m betting your ST will fire up just fine after two weeks. You just won’t be able to do it from afar.

That's fine. I'll be in Europe anyway.

I recently bought a Noco Genius 1 and that keeps the battery topped off. When Amazon delivers the 10’ extension cable, I will hardwire it to the battery. The Genius is under $30 on Amazon.
All I do now is pop the hood, plug in the charger and let it go.

Do you leave the plastic trim piece off that covers the battery? Still such a dumb design.
No. It’s all buttoned up. All I do is pop the hood and connect the charger near the left front fender.
