Introducing Thermal R&D 3-inch Exhaust system! (Sound Clips)

I've been running the 3" system for ~9 months and ~4K miles, so I guess I can drop a review now. I'll preface this with this: I might have a defective system, I think it has an internal rattle on decel ~1900 RPM. It's very repeatable. It didn't bug me enough to try to diagnose it outside in...

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

Thanks for the updates Nick. I've updated my original post with this info as well.

    Considering my 1st Tune

NOWHERE did I say it was malice or negligence. You're putting words in my mouth....er, post. Ford decided to save some money by going to a single bolt. There was a recall for the single diff bolt not being up to spec. Did they replace the bolt? No, they had the dealers flash the ECU to apply...

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

I'm not saying it's an easy fix, but they're pretty big in the aftermarket so I doubt they want the hit to their reputation. LOTS of aftermarket companies have screwed up a product, how they respond is what differs the good companies from the bad.

    Considering my 1st Tune

lol, you bring up ethics when we're talking about Ford and dealerships. They will deny you a warranty claim on things they KNOW are an issue to try and save or make a buck. The single diff bolt is a perfect example. As for piggybacks, they've come a long way, but I'm with you on this one, if...

What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

I got five boxes out of my garage this weekend: Mishimoto IC (1 big box) Thermal R&D 3" Exhaust (2 big boxes) AWR diff mount Steeda Rear Sway Bar It started raining shortly after this pic, so I didn't get any pics of the finished exhaust, but here's the swaybar, diff support, and partially...

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

That really depends on their response. It's a new offering and they have time to make it right.

    Considering my 1st Tune

The dealer would never install an aftermarket tune. You could ask them their opinion on it, some dealers are fine with it, but unless you have that agreement in writing, don't be surprised if you ever need warranty work and they try to deny it because you're tuned, even if it has nothing to do...

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

Glad I'm not the only one, I had to pry the black tab quite a bit to get the IC tab in, then saw how far it was off and knew something wasn't right, and pulled it out My ST is a lease, and while I will most likely keep it, I'm doing my best to not modify stock parts to fit aftermarket stuff.

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

If Ford changed something, they would have to change both the IC and the Radiator, I don't think you can change one without changing the other. So while it's not impossible for them to do, I would say it's highly unlikely. FWIW, the part number on the sticker for my stock IC is: L1M3-6K775-BF...

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

The slot is part of the plastic radiator endtank, so modifying that isn't ideal.

    Mishimoto's Performance Intercooler R&D Thread

I'll just leave this here for those that are watching this thread, my issues/observations on the install of the IC: https://www.explorerst.org/threads/mishimoto-intercooler-install-issues-observations.4340/

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

I got it in, I cooled down a bit and then just removed the tab to get it to fit. I updated the first post with more details.

Closed on the weekend and Monday is a holiday, so I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone until Tuesday.

    Mishimoto Intercooler Install Issues/Observations

Update #3 - Mishimoto has updated their thread with their findings about the tab, basically saying it's safe to remove if it's not lining up properly. https://www.explorerst.org/threads/mishimotos-performance-intercooler-r-d-thread.3175/page-6#post-57468 Update/Edit #2 - Mishimoto is aware of...

CV Fab Intercooler in Prototype Stage

So I just checked out your website, I see you offer intercooler piping for a lot of vehicles. For people that already have a Whipple or are buying the Mishimoto, if you offer IC piping for the Explorer ST, would it be compatible with any IC or only yours?

    Crankcase breather

You just found out the hard way that open element breathers have no place on modern engines. Not only will it spit oil all over the place, if it's close to the HVAC fresh air inlet, you can get smells into the interior (and they aren't pleasant) PCV offers many benefits to our engines, with...

    ST vs. The Competition

If you want a sporty 3-row SUV, you can narrow it down to just 3 (Explorer, Durango, Tahoe), and I don't even consider the Tahoe to be sporty (of all the V8 engines GM has to offer, you stick to the 5.3? Really? C'mon, take this seriously) Money no-object, I'm taking the Durango SRT all day...

Introducing Thermal R&D 3-inch Exhaust system! (Sound Clips)

Placed my order. I was prepared to go with the 2.5" system thinking this was going to be way more expensive, turns out it wasn't (compared to pre-order at least)
