If your in Sport then that's the fake engine sound. If not then there's a leak somewhere.

You're probably right. The Timberline is an off roader and the ST is a street oriented SUV.

I'd take it to a different dealer. That's what warranty is for and if this is a new development than it isn't normal. FYI Sport mode does jerk a little bit from 4th to 3rd so that it can rev match but it doesn't slam the gears.
