Explorer ST vs. GMC Typhoon (the "original" performance SUV)

I know we've come a long way since 1992, but I thought some of you would find it interesting ... 1992 GMC Typhoon Base price: $29,530 ($63,352 adj for inflation) 262 cu in / 4.3L 280 hp / 350 lb-ft Passenger volume: 91 cu ft Cargo volume: 28 cu ft Curb weight: 3,822 lb 0-60 mph: 5.3 sec 5–60...

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

TO FORUM MOD: As I take an overview of this topic, it's apparent that it has nowhere to go. We're not seeing anything close to what some people would have us believe regarding breaks. Feel free to close this thread as you wish, it's played its course. CareerFiremanGuy

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Okay, if nobody responds I get it. Because the gargantuan elephant in the room is that even if a paltry 10% of vehicles in the recall broke their bolt, that would literally mean 25,000 thousand people swarming the internet with their stories. But the fact remains we're just not seeing it. And...

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Anybody? Would like to see people's guesses as to what those two "corrective actions" were. And if those two actions are the reason we're not seeing anywhere near the number of reported breaks as some people would have us believe.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

I revisited one of the first articles that reported the bolt shear and found two interesting items (highlighted in yellow). First, that FORD Engineering was aware of the problem on 8/10/21. Second, that Dakotta (the assembler of the rear module) applied 2 "corrective actions" (in 02/20 and...

    Bad MPG

Hope you get it figured out. Window Sticker says 20 mpg Combined (18 mpg City and 24 mpg Highway). That's exactly what I'm getting, and it's exactly what you should be getting.

    FORD PERFOMANCE DOOR SILL REPLACEMENT?

Well, I was going to do it. But $191 for something I don't usually see that I step over with my foot ... nah.

    Bad MPG

Maybe you got the Mach-E's programming and it's trying to read MPGe.;) The lowest I got was when it was brand new and it showed some crazy low numbers. After that, the lowest I've seen is 19.9 mpg and the highest 20.9 mpg.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

That's 'cause I'm a funny guy, writing such humourous material like ... "I tried to get my ST in for an oil change, but was told by the Service Dept that they're backlogged with all the one bolt repairs." NOT!

    ST vs. The Competition

Okay, I've updated pricing on the vehicles in the comparison. They are to the right of the original price quote in RED with (brackets). Some changed very little. Some changed a lot. SPOILER: ST remains the performance value leader.(y)

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Let us know how you do. I've been into keeping my vehicles stock for at least the last decade (Mustangs, Taurus SHO, Stinger GT, etc.). A big change from when I used to bring them home from the dealer and started stripping parts off of them. Lol

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

And it's been proven to you that people have lied about all the supposed rear bolt breaks they've "seen"... so the .09% figure remains legit, using the only concrete information that we have, misinformation coming from deceitful owners hell bent on spreading PANIC on both the 1/3 and 2/4...

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Locking things up is weak. Theres already too much of that cr@p going on in this world. If you are too sensitive to real men talking about real issues, then scour elsewhere.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Well, it's a valid point that just because FORD permitted a one year warranty extension that its seriousness means squat in the real world. That fact aside, polling remains valid here because this is an Explorer ST specific forum so it doesn't get any more real than that. People love to be fed...

    Considering my 1st Tune

haha You bring up the notion that FORD is trying to "save a buck" when in reality neither you nor anyone else here knows why they went to one bolt. They will NOT deny your warranty to save a buck. The single bolt diff is the perfect example. Regarding non piggyback tunes, to say you "might as...

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Seeing no responses to my posts about the malarky on LeftBook's "Explorer ST Owners" page, I ask people to remember that to be uninformed on a topic is the same as having no working knowledge on that topic. So if some people make the wild claim that even stock ST's are breaking rear bolts "left...

    ST vs. The Competition

Glad to read you comment. Yes, the ST is a ton of fun, and the fact that nothing else even comes close to it for price/performance is the icing on the cake.

You're allowing perpetrators of falsehoods to pass you by to the point of radical indifference just keep your eye on the bouncing ball.

    Considering my 1st Tune

No dealer can officially accept and/or condone an unapproved 3rd party tune. It's not something that's within their purview. The only tune a Ford dealer can put in is one that has been authorized by FORD.
