What viscosity of engine oil are you using?

I switched to that one due to my oil test results on other oils. I will be sticking with it for the foreseeable future.

    Turbo Control Solenoid

I have gotten that code before, but it was during logs/testing. There's a vacuum control valve assembly that regulates the wastegates. 9E882

Oil testing & too much info

Got my first look at the M1 FS 5w-30 that I've started using. I think I will stick with this oil for the time being. The 2 previous tests are Penn Platinum 5w-30.

    Blackstone Oil Analysis Reports

My latest report on my ST. This last run was the M1 FS 5w-30 (euro spec), the previous 2 are Penn Platinum. I switched to the M1 due to the low viscosity (5w-20 range) the Penn Plat was delivering after just 1K miles.

    Slower after mods

The biggest bang for the buck is a tune, everything else is a supporting mod. If you are going to be putting on the downpipes, you may as well get a custom tune at the same time to account for the parts you have already put on. I happen to have a used set of CVFab downpipes sitting in my garage.

    Catch Can Worth It?

Based on the junk I dump out of my catch can, for me, yes it is worth it.

Oil testing & too much info

I use my Accessport to monitor oil temp and pressure. After about 4 miles of city driving, its up to 175-180.

New! One piece carbon fiber driveshaft from Gulfcoast Driveshaft

That is a sexy piece. I saw the HSF install video when it came out and knew that it would have a fairly substantial, but justifiable price tag. Quality cost money and my wallet is already screaming at me. Maybe I can get the wife to buy it for me for Christmas....A man can dream, right?

Oil testing & too much info

A little more compiled info of the different 5w-30s I found. A reminder that the range for a 30 weight oil is 9.3 to 12.5 cSt at 100C. The oils listed are the advertised cSt at100C. Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 is 9.8 cSt Amsoil Signature Series 5w-30 is 10.3 cSt Royal Purple 5w-30 is 10.5 cSt...

Oil testing & too much info

Not sure if anyone else is as obsessive about a topic as I sometimes will be. I recently went way too far down the rabbit hole on oil specifications. I believed I was using the "right" oil (Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30) based on literature & word-of-mouth, until I sent off a sample to be tested...

    Whirling Noise at High Speeds

I bet its either the rear differential or transfer case. My rear diff started out sounding like that and ended up eating itself at 30K miles.

What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

They are a solid product, no pun intended. I did not notice any additional NVH, but YMMV.

What’s everyone getting for fuel economy?

Some data from my Fuelio app. 29,825.7 miles driven, 1,710.87 gallons used for an average of 17.61 MPG. 24.03 mpg best, 13.54 mpg worst. All of this has been on either 93, E30 or E45 and tuned.

What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

I got the HSF solid pinion bushings installed....along with a new rear differential.

What’s everyone getting for fuel economy?

Your theory is flawed. If you are making more power, you are using more fuel.

    Built transmission, re-tune?

I was told by RSA that stock tuning was required for the new valve body to be programmed. After that was done, upload the previous 93 tune and go have fun. My tuner also made changes to the shift pressures and such to match the valve body changes RSA does. It is a night and day difference...
