2020 Explorer/Aviator Module Updates by Ford

Unfortunately, a dealer will probably only update a few modules if you have some complaints. If you want them all done, you either have to pay the dealer to do it or do it yourself--neither option is cheap Doesn't seem right because a lot of the updates fix bugs in the original firmware...

    Catalytic Converters

it may be louder, you may smell exhaust in the cabin but you may not. Best way is visual inspection. It's hard to see the welds by the flange. my crack was the weld further down. also the flex sections in the midpipe are prone to rattle then fail. keep an eye on those too.

The "Space GhoST" has lost its powers....

well there's always going to be a drop. the car doesn't charge the battery to 100%. On a good battery, it'll stop charging when the battery target is reached and the alternator won't be active. I have always used my radar detector in voltage mode to see the changes in real time. I knew my...

Which aftermarket exhaust & down pipes are the quietest?

If you have to ask for the quietest, you should just stay with the stock system. Plenty of people buy catbacks or even full exhausts and realize the sound isn't what they were looking for. It's an expensive quest.

    Roof rack cross bars?

I'd rethink that. Most of us are ignoring the Ford limits but are driving cautiously knowing the rollover risk is greater. I think my Skybox weighs 47lbs? It's almost a given that I'm going to exceed 75lb. i for sure drive cautiously but have to remind my wife because it's not something she...

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

They replace the entire rear subframe for a failed bushing? Or was there more damaged. Personally, I'd get rid of the car! Ford says they will only fix it once. Happens again and you might be on the hook for thousands of dollars if it takes out your driveshaft, axles, and rear diff. I'd...

    Water Leak When It Rains

I think he's inquiring about the windshield not being adequately sealed. I think though that the sunroof drains down the A and C pillars. maybe check that first.

    It finally happened...

I have a 2020 as well. Noticed lately (through my radar detector) that the BMS was always charging the battery when the engine was on. Also noticed the battery voltage when off was often 12V or slightly below. The final straw was the car refused to update Sync when I put the USB stick in...

    Has anyone changed exhaust tips?

Got tired of some of the sounds coming from my Gibson mufflers so put the stock ones back on. Used 2.25" inlet, 4" outlet, 8" long tips. Cut some wedges into the tip collar and used a 2" clamp to make it work.

    Ugh! First Speeding Ticket

It's too easy to get a ticket in these cars! I've been ticket free the past 2 years and I owe it all to heavy use of intelligent cruise control!

    Catalytic Converters

Is yours a MY2020? When you had them replaced, did you get one the new version with the cast flange?

    Roof rack cross bars?

Me too. Yakima Skybox 16. The Ford Crossbars are quiet. I do not notice any wind noise from above.

    Canadian Built ST

I didn't think Explorers were in short supply. If I'm not mistaken, there's a $1000 incentive off a new one. IIRC, someone with a Canadian Explorer had an issue with the display always wanting km/h. When they set it for MPH, it reverted back to km/h with the next start. Maybe some Forscan...

Right side rattle at highway speeds

M6 nut and fender washer (stainless). I'd replace them all, even if they seem intact because they'll all lose their grip eventually
