I think the transmission blew! I was in traffic pulling away from a stop light when the engine just started bouncing off the rev limiter and the vehicle nose dived. I let off the throttle and eased back into it and it just bogged down. I noticed that it was in 9th gear and wouldn't down shift. I pulled over, stopped and switched to manual. I was able to get the vehicle moving but if I gave it just a bit too much throttle it would just rev the engine and not accelerate. If I switched back to auto it would just jump right to 9th gear. I was able to limp home using manual mode but when I went to back into the driveway, I had no reverse. I'm not sure what they did but I just had the transmission serviced a few weeks ago and it started slipping going from 2nd to 3rd. I brought it back in for service and they said they fixed it but it was still slipping. I've been babying the thing until I could get it back in next week for another recall fix. I plugged in the laptop and there are a bunch of code. Too many to list. Now I'm going to have to fight with them over this. I just hope they don't try to say it's because of the tune! I've had so many issue with this vehicle!

Well that sucks! Keep us posted. I romp on mine quite regularly and to date have not had any issues.

Who did the “service?

Was the trans “flushed” or just a fluid swap?

Why did you think it needed serviced?

How long and what type of driving were you doing before it “blew”?

I had the dealer do a transmission service while it was in for repair. The only reason I had it serviced was because I read in a couple places that people were doing the service at 30k miles because of fluid level issues and to switch to synthetic. It was fine until they did the service and then it started the old slip from 2nd to 3rd. I have been babying it because they said the rear differential had an issue related to a TSB and it had to go back in to get it fixed. I posted in another post that they used BG Synthetic fluid and not Motocraft! So if they try to say it's because of my exhaust or my tune (though I did return it to stock) I can fight back with the fact they didn't use a Motocraft product as specified. I don't think they will give me a hard time though. I've got all the emails I've sent documenting the problem.

Wonder if they screwed up the fluid level. Awfully coincidental it happened right after service.

Therein lies the rub. Assuming it needs a rebuild, do you have the dealer to do it under warranty or do you make the call and put a built transmission in it? I'd be torn as I always want something better than it came from the factory. That said, a no-charge newly rebuilt transmission is not easy to pass up.

How much is a built transmission generally?

6k for a Level Ten 10R60. That’s for a complete. Not sure what the charge is if you send them a code to build.

If they tell me it's not going to be covered under warranty then I'm definately gonna bring it somewhere else! I imagine that what they'd charge me to do a rebuild (and I'd be rolling the dice with that) I could bring it to a transmission shop and have it built!

Level 10 has been a shitshow for a while. There are other, better options but the pricing is about the same.

Can you name some better options? Anything close to me in the NE. There are a few transmission shops around here but I don't know if they build these. Probably just a regular rebuild.

A1 Transmissions in GA and RSA in Florida are the only 2 I would recommend at the moment. Shipping is cheap if needed.

There is one shop near buy that does performance transmissions but I'd have to call them to see if they could do a 10R60. And that's only if Ford gives me a hard time and denies the work.

For the heck of it, I did a search for a 10R60 build kit and found these over at Lethal Preformance. Quite pricey I know, but are they worth it? Anyone ever used one of these kits before?

I have heard that is a good kit if you are into doing it yourself. I did an old C4 transmission but it was pretty simple. I’m not sure I would attempt it myself on a 10R60. Lots more complicated if you are not a transmission guy.

Transmissions are about the only thing I've never messed with and I'm not gonna start with this one! If, IF, I need to go that route, I did find a shop in the area that does performance transmissions and has experience with the 10R60. He's never done a performance built one but has done quite a few stock rebuilds. The owner of the shop is going to give me a call on Monday to discuss it. I just want to have a path lined up in case the dealer tries to deny the warranty. I don't want to wait for my vehicle while I fight with them over it. I'd rather have the performance built but if they agree to fix it, I can't pass it up.
