Honestly, this fits my needs. Fixing the gearbox (that should have been a general update from Ford anyway) and giving a boost in power without voiding the warranty. I don't see any downside, apart from having to use 93 to unlock the benefits.

Has anyone else tried this? Would love to have some feedback from others on their experience of this exact product.

I've asked about it to my dealership, but they haven't done one yet. I don't want to be their first customer on this tune.

READ MY LIPS......NO NEW..errrr, there will never be a Ford Performance tune. Keep bugging Ford Performance all you want, it just won't happen. You will ask them in May and they'll say "end of Q3". Q3 = Q4 and so on.
This didn't age well

It actually did age well. Based on the information Ford provided on THEIR tune it does nothing. The graph shows a "Baseline 87 Octane" vs "FPP Tune 93 Octane"......terrible comparison for a test. Of course it will make more power on 93, it is inherent to the fuel used. Now, the 2nd grade level Excel plot leads to many additional questions regarding the validity of any actual tests. Bottom line is this tune is a joke and there is zero credibility behind the “results” shown.

You folks are putting too much stock in the technical details created by the marketing department. It's likely inaccurate

Ford did remove the octane off the graph.

Maybe because this is a "technical" modification. Seriously, the amount of effort Ford has put into this "tune" it wouldn't surprise me if all they did was amplify FENG in every drive mode, including ECO. PLEASE anyone who buys this do a pre and post tune run. I'll even loan you my P-Gear to log if you are near Cincinnati.

You are absolutely correct, but it is still the marketing department, and it is run by humans, many of which aren't "car people" much less enthusiasts.

Trust me when I say that FOMOCO is not as much of a well-oiled machine as some like to believe.

Every other Ford Performance tune that was independently tested is in line with the gains stated by FP, not sure why you think this one would be any different.

Glad to know that you somehow also know what the effort they put into the tune…

Steeda is offering this product for $699.00 and stating install time of 15 minutes.... Come on, someone go first and tell the rest of us what you think of it!

But you will need a Ford dealer to install the tune to keep the factory warranty.

Lethal Performance is selling the tuner for $695

  • 3 year/36k mile warranty from new vehicle in-service when installed by a Ford dealer or ASE/Red Seal certified technician

From what I'm seeing it's not the factory warranty but a different Ford Performance warranty. Not sure how that affects things.

I called some local dealers last week when this was announced and they either said they don't do this or they'd get back to me, but haven't heard back.

Everyone sure likes to complain about the price. 30HP and 50TQ is a pretty good gain for the price when compared to how much it costs to make power and keep some sort of warranty. I'd also rather have the warranty since these Explorers seem to have lots of problems, so this is worth it for me. If I wanted to squeeze every last ounce of power out of the vehicle I sure wouldn't be wasting my time doing it to an Explorer. I see this as simply a small power bump and I'm happy that Ford is supporting the platform, especially when it looked like this wasn't going to happen due to the rear end bolt problems.

Curiosity got the best of me and I ordered one from Lethal last Friday. I hope to have baseline versus FP calibration 1/4 mile and dyno data for comparison. It might be a few a weeks, I don’t think they are available to ship until October 12th.

Okay, now we're talking. Everything makes sense.

... I called some local dealers last week when this was announced and they either said they don't do this or they'd get back to me, but haven't heard back ...
I asked about it at my dealer and they looked puzzled as if they never heard of Ford Performance before (and they're not a small dealer). Not too confidence inspiring ...

Most dealers have zero clue about the aftermarket. You have to bring supporting documentation and part # to help the process.

I get what you're saying, but the service department I spoke is located at a dealer that sells every high performance variant that FORD sells.

That's what surprised me so much, still doesn't make any sense ...

Might be worth it if it actually makes the 30hp. I did a little checking around in the Mustang forum. Some1 made about 38 peak hp, with the 2.3L, with the Calibration & only a MBRP race exhaust, everything else bone stock.

That's a lot like the response I got from the dealer I bought it from, even though the salesperson was going on about all the Ford Performance stuff he's had the service department install on his mustang. I guess it just goes to show that sales will say anything that helps close the deal.

Except the reaction I got was from a Service Advisor, not someone in Sales. Lol

Ford Proformance builds the enthusiasm for the brand. Unfortunately, the sales department uses that enthusiasm to extract the most amount of money out of us. Either on new cars sales, trade-ins or at the parts desk.
