Tune After Borla Cat Back Exhaust/21E11 Recall?

Is a tune required after installing a Borla Type S cat back exhaust? I typically see a tune and exhaust go hand in hand on this forum. However, I don't want a dealership voiding my warranty for a tune after spending close to $60k on the vehicle. Also, I am having the left cat replaced due to the 21E11 recall (part backordered for months of course). I am waiting to have the cat replaced before I make a decision on installing the new exhaust. Not too sure if the new exhaust will crack the cat again or if it's in part due to the vibrations from the factory flex pipes. If I install a new exhaust and it cracks the cat again, we all know Ford will most likely say it's due to the new exhaust and they won't replace. Need recommendations from experience at this point....

Appreciate the response. Do you have yours connected to the stock cats? If so, any issues with them failing or heard of any issues after an aftermarket exhaust is installed?

I run SPD downpipes and a dual 3 inch exhaust that I built myself

I have the Borla Stype cat back, had Both Cats replaced 2 months ago at the Ford Dealer. No issues with warranty claims with having a aftermarket cat back system. The issue with the Ford cats is the mounting arm bracket weld cracking which leads to the upper flange weld cracking, when the mounting bracket weld cracks it allows the cat to move back and forth and breaks the flange weld. They also crack at the bottom of the can, the weld that is at a 45degree angle, the passenger one had a pinhole leak which was visible by black exhaust residue leaking down. Hope this helps and get your exhaust system, it’s not something Ford can deny warranty for, especially when the cats are a know issue.

Does the Borla exhaust replace the flex pipes or is it installed behind the flex pipes?

Borla Atak does not replace the flex pipes.
I had to buy aftermarket ones from Vibrant and weld them on.
You could also buy a new mid pipe from MRT I believe to replace the whole mid pipe assembly.
I took the cheaper alternative :)

Can the existing factory installed flex pipes and mid pipe be used with the Borla exhaust? I assume so but want to make sure before I make the purchase. Also, is the Borla exhaust the side pipe diameter as the factory installed exhaust? Just looking for improved exhaust note at this point.

In addition to left cat. replacement on the 21E11 recall, the PCM is also updated to a new calibration for whatever reason. What happens for people that have a tune and the dealer tries to do the software update during the recall?

I generally go back to stock when I go in for service that might involve an update. Had a Tahoe that got updated by the dealer and it messed up the tune and I had to start over. Might be worth doing some logging after the update too just to make sure everything looks good. I believe they can tell if they look that you had a tune, at least you could in GM world. I'm not that concerned about drivetrain warranty as if you want to play you sometimes gotta pay. I would not honestly expect them to cover a tuned vehicle.
