Soon I will be replacing a subframe on a 2020 ford explorer st that i am working on. The car got into a accident and the subframe got damaged, so we are replacing it. Is there any info or videos that will be helpful for me while im working on it? Any info will help. I will be following the procedures that alldata says to do but i just want to know if there is anyone that has replaced a subframe on these cars before and if you have any tips. And do you really need to buy the $1500 engine hoist from ford to hold up the engine? or is there any other way to work around that?

There's always the option of renting a cherry picker too, though I doubt it would be much cheaper than buying the Harbor Freight piece listed above.

I haven't tried before, but has anyone dropped it out the bottom before?
If so, and you know someone with a lift, you could be in business.

The problem with a cherry picker is the legs will be right under the subframe where you need to work.

We have a lift at the shop so it shouldnt be too hard to do.

I replaced mine diy to get a 4 bolt subframe. Had a lift and spent a weekend replacing it. I’ve got a thread with pics from a few years ago. It was not difficult, just time consuming. I did have to make a tool from square tube and a muffler clamp to get the driveshaft out from the rear diff.
