Does anyone else hear that the ST rear shocks and Interceptor rear shocks are on back order because Ford found a quality issue with them? I need to replace my rear shocks because they are leaking, and Ford says they can't sell them to me due to this quality problem.

When you say “Ford” who are you referring to. The dealer? Or their actual parts hotline?

All my local dealers in my area. I'm curious if that's just in my area or if it's a “upcoming” recall Ford hasn't published yet to all Explorer ST owners.

hmmm, what’s odd with that is the PIUsa aren’t fail prone like the regular explorers. Maybe contact HSF or ZFG, they sometimes have them in stock.

Travis has them listed as out of stock but I'll check with ZFG!

Rock Auto sells oem Ford parts for the Explorer ST
Yes. they list the PIU rears on the website. I've been getting OE parts here. They usually ship pretty fast too.

Haven't heard that, if you hear back report back.

Few months ago I bought a full set of oem struts and shocks from Rock Auto. Good price, fast shipping, no issues.

Yeah, it was definitely time for some new rear shocks after 50k miles. On the left are ST shocks, and on the right are PIU shocks. My local dealer ended up finding two pairs left in stock.

How many miles did u get before replcaement? My rears are making a hollow sounding noise and creaking after ford put a new rear diff in. 70k on it and ordered a new 2026.

I replaced them at 40k. I was hunting a noise problem and wanted to replace one but decided to replace all. 40k a little early imo but I believe 70k is about right for replacement.

I replaced ST shocks/struts at 60k mi. They were noticeable soft. At 30k on the PIUs, i replaced the rears just because they are cheap--they were still firm.
