I purchased a UPR catch can, but the orange Ford quick connects have to come off. UPR says to heat the two ends of the tube so the Ford orange connectors can be pulled out and insert the new ones included in the UPR kit. Is a hairdryer hot enough to use or is it better to use a heat gun? I know those heat guns can do some serious damage if you're not careful. Honestly, I've never used one; I've always had good luck with the wife's hairdryer.
I would try these first. https://www.harborfreight.com/fuel-line-and-ac-quick-disconnect-tool-6-piece-63595.html

Installed the Steeda Vertical Link Supports today. They were a tight fit, needed channel locks to press into place. I double-checked the arrows too. Did not take too long.
I agree. More difficult than expected to get those things in the right position.

They work ok? I looked at them in my ST and I'm unsure if there's enough room to even get anything under the edge of the quick connect, especially the end down by the turbo. I'm dreading this part!
I have not tried it but thought maybe try it prior to see if ti would be an option before either buying the UPR can or using heat. You could also go JLT and get a good amount of collection from that.

DSGR,

Hair dryer will warm the tubing up enough to allow it to come off the fittings. FWIW, our ST had the blue fittings installed rather than the orange fittings. October '25 build date so maybe ours has "old" fittings on it? Suggest that you use an old hand towel to insulate the surrounding area from the warm air and check every 30 seconds or so whether the tubing is pliable enough to remove.

Is there a video (YouTube or UPR) showing the installation for the 'orange fitting' equipped STs?

Good luck with the work.

Thank you! Yep, Ford used those orange, one-use fittings designed by the devil! UPR says you can use a right angle pick, but there's not enough room to get the end of the pick under the edge all the way around the fitting, especially the end down by the turbo. I did see an alternate method on UPR's instructions to pry the black part away just enough that the orange locking tab will snap out. I have two pick sizes and there's one of the picks in both sets that's at this strange angle with a short end by the point. These might work to pry out the orange locking tab. I've been out looking at both ends carefully and have almost decided it would be easier to simply break the tab (according to Ford) and remove the fitting. It's probably not worth the time and effort when I'll be replacing the quick connect ends anyway with those supplied by UPR. Yes, I did find a couple of good videos on YouTube showing the removal of the orange fitting. One used a fuel line removal tool, but it was a struggle and there's not enough room to use it on the Explorer. He didn't say what he was working on. In another video, the guy simply broke the orange part. He said it broke fairly easily. You were lucky yours had the blue fittings. I'm jealous! The next thing is to grow a foot taller to get to the low areas under the hood...and I'm 6' 1."

Thanks. I decided to buy a UPR catch can based on the info I had read about it. Although, it's not truly plug-n-play!

I had the TPMS sensors replaced at the dealer. All 4 had gone bad so the Ford Extended warranty my cost was $100.00

That worked out well. Is it an extended warranty specifically from Ford?

I paid $1,725 for 8 years 100,000 miles.
$100 deductibles and has the key service, lighting, and rental.
@Dale5403 , @DSGR :
That is a tremendous deal; mine was double that for 9 years and 60,000 miles!! Gasoline is not the only thing more expensive here in California.

Some of it is inflation. I bought my Explorer 6 years ago.

In 2019 when I bought my new "Donor Car" Mustang (I-4 Ecoboost Premium Coupe) to be converted to a SHELBY GTE, a dealer in Modesto was charging about $3,500 for the ESP protection like yours. Best part was when I traded it in back in May 2024, the Folsom Lake Inventory Manager told me his Dealership would NOT give me anything extra for the unused portion of the ESP protection. He suggested I sell it back to FORD; I got more $$$ back than you paid for your entire coverage. Go figure.

I purchased from Two Rivers Ford. 615-889-9215 Joel was the contact at the time.
