Hello everyone! My name is Stanley. I’m currently 22 about to turn 23 this upcoming Sunday, I'm new here so this will be my first post on here. I recently became a new owner of a Black 2025 Explorer ST. Been 2 weeks of owning it, traded in my 2020 Mustang GT. Do miss that V8 a lot but don’t regret the switch, it was time for something more spacious. I’m here for recommendations on tint!. On my Mustang I had 5 all around with 50 on the windshield and 15 sun strip. Loved it! Now for the ST I cannot decide if I want 35 shield with 5 all around or 35 shield with 15 fronts and 5 rears.. if any of yall have tint on your car could you post pictures and does having your sun roof open or even have the shade open help lighten it up ?! Thank you in advance.

Stanv03,

Welcome aboard.

You'll really enjoy the ST - it handles well and has lots of pep. And it is very comfy and spacious for everything you need to carry.

The aftermarket has a bevy of parts and this forum has the resources you need to evaluate what is needed to meet your performance goals for your ST.

As for tint, watch your local laws. FWIW, I had the front windows tinted to match the rears and had a visor panel (5%) without any other tint added to the windshield. You can run a search for "tint" and find a bunch of helpful threads and photos, too, that ought to help you decide what you want to install.

There's a 'new member introduction' thread that you should post in (and you'll get a warm and hearty welcome by many). It's at the top of the list of forums.

Welcome, again, and enjoy!

@Stanv03 :

Welcome Aboard!!

I thoroughly loved my 2017 Shelby GTE Mustang but it became almost impossible for me to get in and especially out of. This ST Platform gives you a whole bunch of possibilities; I seriously doubt you can stay here and not get the bug and then start getting some upgrades (exhaust, different tires/wheels, sound, etc, etc).

It's tint, not tints. I would not go 5 all around. 15 on front driver/passenger - I have had no problem.

Love the white and black combo
Was thinking just today how I thought I liked my old Rapid Red better, but realized its hard to beat the white and black.

Everybody is entitled to have a crazy thought once in a while. ".. I thought I liked my old Rapid Red better, but...". [histerical]

I have 20% XPEL Ceramic all around, Not so dark I can't see at night, but plenty dark enough to keep the light manageable and the cabin cooler during the day. Tinting the windshield is usually asking for getting pulled over, that's your decision. I just have a strip down to the A1 line.

Depends on regional enforcement. Some areas are lax and some are not.

I know where I live, tinted windshields have gotten very popular, which means now they are are on the radar of local law enforcement and something they now look out for. I see posts by PD's near me on FB all the time commenting on the illegality of them.

You can actually fly under the radar with something like 70% or 80% ceramic which isn't dark and does a great job cutting down heat, but it doesn't have the dark effect folks are usually looking for.

I love the look of a dark tinted car and windshield, but I'm just too old to deal with getting hassled for tint and going to appeals. One of my Mustangs is tinted dark, but i rarely drive it so I'm just more willing to roll the dice on that car vs my daily.

Edit: Sorry forgot to give the OP my suggestion. On my ST the side windows measure 15% on my meter, so I'd prob match 15% on the front two windows. Windshield up to you. Darkest i'd go is 50%. I rode in a car with 35% and at night in the rain, and I just couldn't do that

Agreed. Just had mine done Ceramic Pro and passed about 8 cops so far. No issues and I don't expect any at all.
