Cam phasers or VCT solenoids? Mine has just under 40,000 miles. No rattle at cold start startup. I know rattle for the first couple seconds on a cold start is a sure sign of cam phasers. I only hear a rattle for the first 1 or 2 miles when I let off the throttle, and only immediately when I let off the throttle. I always try to keep a constant and slow acceleration to avoid that rattle. After that everything is fine. It’s been doing it for several months now. Regular oil changes every 5k.
Here is a short video I found that sounds exactly like what I hear when I let off the gas pedal, only when engine is still cold.
My question is how can you tell if this is the cam phasers or VCT solenoids. Has anyone else experienced this in their 3.0 TT?
