Hello! I picked up my 2025 ST in October, and I'm totally thrilled with it. And the Explorer ST had never even be on our radar!
I previously had a Honda Ridgeline, the original 2006 year. It was great, it drove like a train on tracks, and very reliable. When it finally gave out, I was looking to replace it with an SUV. No longer needed a pickup truck - the days of heavy home projects was over. First I checked out the Honda Pilot and Passport, but wasn't impressed. Those drive like minivans now (only slower). On to Acura: I wasn't too impressed with the MDX. The RDX handled nicely, but it is a bit small (I'm 6'1). Also, these cars have rather stiff leather seats that are uncomfortable, at least to me. My back is rather sensitive, I've had a lot of problems with it in the past. On to other cars: Jeep Grand Cherokee, BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes GLE, Mazda CX 90 and a few others (i.e. Toyota). In the end, we almost settled on the X5, though I was concerned with the long term costs. And there is no local dealer. Also, while the seat back cushion was comfortable, the seat pan was too narrow, and the bolsters where squishing my thighs.
And then by chance, one of the local dealers had a used ST on the lot. We tried it, and I was immediately hooked. A few days later, we went to the Ford dealer and picked our red ST. I much prefer the cloth-like seats over the leather that most other cars had. It's still a bit on the firm side, but so far after 1 month, by back is fine with it. And man this car drives like a dream! The combination of the truck-like driving stance, unbelievably nimble handling, and ample space and power just makes it the perfect vehicle. It out-handles anything I tried, except for the Cayenne which costs almost twice as much and has much less space and comfort. My daily commute is about 30 miles, half of which is a boring highway, and the other half a curvy road over a mountain. I my ST, I turn on Blue Cruise on the first half and relax, and I have fun driving it like a sports car on the 2nd half. All in the same car! I would not trade my ST for anything.
