This engine has been around for awhile, so I'd guess a supplier problem. There are four possibilities: The valves themselves are breaking; that would be the easiest to diagnose. The retainers are breaking- possible bad heat treatment. The springs are failing- possible bad heat treatment. The hydraulic lifter which also serves as a "guide" for the finger follower is allowing the follower to slip off the valve stem- resulting in the retainers to pop out. All will result in some pretty impressive collateral damage.

A broken ring land caused my CTSV to blow a rod through the block :) I'd call that catastrophic collateral damage:LOL:
