    LOOKS LIKE POLICE VECHICLE

As a Firefighter, I'm a big supporter of the Blue. But in the crazy world we're in, I'm thinking there are times when it's ok to be an LEO lookalike ... and there are times when it's not.

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

Ahh, I see. Cinder blocks! I'm also thankful for this forum as well.

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

While I wouldn't necessarily call it "bashing', I did find it extremely odd the op would come to an Explorer ST forum to tell us why he didn't get an Explorer ST. If he tried that on a Camaro or Mustang forum, he would've been catapulted into outer space. But I suspect a more mature...

    Thoughts on Sport Mode ...

I know Chevy publicizes a 500 mile ecu protection for their Vette, but I haven't found anything similar on the Explorer in internet searches or in the owner's manual. Do you have a link to it? Thanks.

    Thoughts on Sport Mode ...

Heh zdubyadubya, you mean there's high rpm protection for the first 500 miles? I only have ~150 miles on the car. Oops!

    Thoughts on Sport Mode ...

Okay bigcat, I get that. Maybe it's because I only have 150 miles on the odo and the fuel the dealer put in is very likely 87 octane. I'll report back when I have more miles on it and have a full tank of 93. Thanks.

    Thoughts on Sport Mode ...

I've had my ST for a few days now and noticed that acceleration feels decidedly better in "Normal" mode than in "Sport." Sport Mode seems to be holding it back, in Normal Mode it lets loose and hauls. I'm still on dealer's fuel, so I'll put in 93 when I'm down to half a tank. Not sure that...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

As I already mentioned, you're not even close to being realistic. Heh, did you see the 434 hp Porsche Macan GTS that goes from 0-60 in 3.5 sec and only costs $60k? Yeah, neither did I. It's $80k. Sorry, I can't support your awkward reasoning. No person of common sense really can. And after...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

If Wishes Were Fishes, The World Would Be An Ocean If you personally wished for a sportier (i.e. "faster") SUV from Ford, then it's already here. The ST is the logical answer. But if you're pondering about 450 hp, then it should be noted that the 10r60 would almost certainly have to be...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

Sorry, I'm confused by your definition of "crazy." The ST's body lines are objectively more aggressive, and it has a better power-to-weight ratio (3.0L 400 hp ST 12.3 lb/hp, 3.5L 400 hp Exp 14.8 lb/hp). Per C&D tests, the 400 hp ST does 0-60 mph/quarter mile in 5.2/13.8@101 mph, the 400 hp...

Sorry! Too many sentences, and I even bore myself!

Why I did buy the Explorer ST, and other various musings ...

It looks great, the sticker price was 53k, it came with enough options to keep my busy, it doesn't weigh 6,000 lbs like a luxury Ford SUV, which makes its 400 hp feel pretty quick. :-)

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

In reality, his story is similar to someone who's choosing between two women. You write a letter to the one you didn't pick, telling her all the great things about her ... but that you chose the other woman instead. I imagine it wouldn't go over too well. Lol

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

The ST is a performance oriented SUV, the Expedition is not. At 70k with the Performance Package, the Expedition weighs over 1,000 lbs more than an ST. Even if you spent another 5k for the Stealth Performance Package (440 hp) your power to weight ratio is still not as good as the ST. So enjoy...

    Horsepower and Octane

reviving an old thread with some info ... When Ford released the Coyote engine in their 2011 Mustang, they said it made 412 hp on 93 fuel, 400 hp on 87. With turbo engines the loss is generally higher. Witness C&D's 2019 test "Is Premium Gas Worth It? We Test High Octane on 4 Popular...
