So I finally did it. I FINALLY got the jailbreak to work on my unit so I can install custom mods and get rid of some of the terrible, annoying features that Ford/Blackberry put into the QNX system (which I personally think is terrible). I installed a mod that removes the navigation restrictions while driving and one that allows you to use the camera button at all times, now I'm working on installing the custom background mod which does work on the 10.1 inch screen. Does anyone know the screen resolution of the 10.1 inch screen? I think someone told me its 1200 x 800, but I'm not sure and I cant seem to find the post to confirm it.

P.s I know I promised to post some photos of my build a really long time ago. I will post them very soon, I promise. Im just very forgetful lol.

Also I forgot to mention, I could offer help to anyone wanting to do this to their unit. Ive done this to several units in the past (even the old way of soldering custom boards to the APIM of older vehicles). I just hate to see anyone else brick their unit cause of what they read on the forum (a new APIM could cost up to 1300US depending on the source, plus reprogramming it to your vehicle)

I can look into it? Im also looking into rewriting some mods to work on the newer APIMs, since most mods are made for the 8inch screen not the 10.1 inch and its kinda making me mad lol.

Now to answer your question. As im thinking about, you may be able to retrofit a way to use them as a 360 dash cam but It might take some work. It wouldnt be a mod though, it would have to be a separate unit given that the QNX system only has like 1GB of ram depending on the version of APIM and the build date of the vehicle. Also storage of the footage would also be an issue considering the stock system has 32gb or 64gb depending if its a NA or EU model, only 8gb/16gb if you dont have navigation (most of us here should lol). Most of that storage is navigation and software.

If you're talking about recording and saving,Teslas have built in storage drives for recording, the Explorer's don't.

Curious if you can make the screen bigger on Carplay/Android auto, make the reverse screen bigger AND automatically turn the front camera when front sensors turn on. Love this feature on Cadillacs

i know that isnt a feature currently, just wondering if there was a software patch that could be made to allow it to function like a dash cam. seems like a wasted resource IMO, all these cameras and no way to save the footage.

I am currently driving an 2019 Edge ST while I wait for my dealer ordered 2022 Explorer ST. I use a CarlinKit for wireless CarPlay. In the settings of the dongle it displays the resolution. This is a round-about way of getting the information, but I thought id share. 77EF332D-75D0-4FDF-93AE-CEAD163CE5D3.jpeg
