I followed a video I found on YouTube this past weekend to take my rear door panels apart. I was surprised, the "adhesive" noise wasn't in the panel itself at all. What I found is there's a plastic/rubber piece circled in yellow in my pictures that was making the noise when it rubbed on the metal. The piece lifts right out. I took some foam weather-stripping I had sitting around from the hardware store and stuck it in between that piece and the metal. That took care of the one door. The other door was still making some noise after this, so I put another piece off foam on top of that black piece, then put the panel back on. I think when the panel rubs on that black piece, it can also make noise, the foam in-between the two seems to help. It's early yet, but so far so good.

this all worked very nicely!!! remove all noise from my back doors!!!

Just an update, this process seems to have worked well to take care of the noises I had when pushing on the rear door panels from the inside. However, the original problem I was investigating was a “clicking/creaking” noise from both rear doors. I have sat back there, but I can’t figure out exactly where it is coming from. I don’t even have to be moving to hear the noise. It seems worse when the weather is warmer. I have seen on other forums where it could be the weatherstripping or the little plastic pieces that hold the weatherstripping on, but I haven’t had any luck isolating it. It’s not constant, but it is really annoying on a brand new vehicle. Does anyone have any ideas???

I have this too! We can be just be sitting still or driving on smooth pavement and I will here the “clicking” sound coming from I think the middle row. Really annoying! That is actually the only noise we have in the car…well besides the squealing brakes, the clunking brake pedal, and the creaking front center armrest.

Keep us posted if you find out what is causing it.

I am glad to hear it isn't just me. This is about the only noise I have right now as well, other then I do get some noise out of my brake pedal when I first start to press down on it. I will report back in if I ever figure the clicking noise out.

So if the temperature is right... I can sit in my back passenger side seat...open the rear door to its first stop...slightly rock it back and forth (not fully open or closed)....
..and i can get the same noise..... it is coming from the roof rail under the headliner. check it out

Interesting… I have the same creaking in the back as well.

I will have to give this a try to see if I can duplicate it. Thanks!

I wasn't able to duplicate this. It still seems like it's in the panel somewhere or between the panel and the outer door. The good news is it's getting colder here now, so I hear it much less often.

Just curious if anyone ever figured anything different out with this clicking/creaking noise from the middle row? The temperatures are finally heating up here, so now I am hearing the noises much more often. To me it still seems like its in the rear door/window/trim/sun shade area somewhere.

I might have finally found what it is, and it does have to do with the sunshade. I took the door apart and found that where the sunshade attached to the door and top trim piece creates the noise. I created some paper washers for the screws that attach it to the top plastic, and some thin high density foam for the ones that attaches it to the door panel and haven't had it happen since I did this. If/when I do the passenger door I'll try to remember to take some photos of where I'm talking about.

Since I have taken the doors apart, many times, I think I know what you are talking about, but some pictures would be awesome! Just to confirm, do you notice the noises more when the sun is out or it’s hotter out? That’s when it is really noticeable for me, like something must expand in the heat and cause the noise.

Yeah, I would say it's worse when it's hot outside (which is almost always here in Arizona haha)

I was definitely amazed at how much quieter the doors were after I did sound deadening. I followed @UNBROKEN thread on soundproofing and it made a huge difference. There are quite a few sources of noise on every panel. I have not heard any noises coming from the sun shade however I have never had it up. Might have to look into that.

My vehicle isn't even running right still, so I'm not willing to invest that much into it to do sound deadening.

For me the noise was there if the shade was up or down, that didn't make a difference.

Oh yeah, that would always be hot. Thanks. It is just getting into the 70s and 80s here now, and that is when I really notice it. Below 70 doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Same here, I tested with the shades up today and I still heard the noise.

Totally agree with you there. Make sure it's right before you invest time and money.

@Vikings71

I did the passenger rear door today and took a few photos.

1. The 7 screws that attach the sun shade to the top trim piece, these are the ones I used paper washers on. I'll explain why in a couple photos.
RearDoorSunshade001.jpg

2. The 5 screws that hold the shade to the door panel. This is where I used the foam washers I made.
RearDoorSunshade002.jpg

3. The paper and foam washers I made. All of them are 1/2" with a 3/16" center.
RearDoorSunshade003.jpg

4. This is why I went paper here, I felt like I was going to break something trying to separate the shade from the trim and when I looked up the cost, it's like $400 per side, if not more. So I used something to pry the tab up slightly and using small needle nose pliers slip the paper washer between. RearDoorSunshade004.jpg

5. Paper washer in place. RearDoorSunshade005.jpg

6. I then used the foam washers on the screws that attach the shade to the door panel, those were easy to put in place. RearDoorSunshade006.jpg

Let me know if this fixes it for you as well if you decide to go this route. I'm curious if this is something more of us have going on or more of a one off. There are a couple other areas I might consider doing a couple things if I start hearing noises again.

Love the creativity Boosted! Thanks for posting this up for everyone. I chased a few rattles in my MKZ and ended up using silicone in between and around all of the pieces. Noting made a sound after that…

Thanks! It's a little crazy what a couple cents of washers could help prevent yet manufacturers don't do it
