the Ford dealership I went to simply moved the rear to the front did not X them.

I’ve always felt that assuming the tires aren’t directional and the rims are the same width that it’s back to front and rears cross rotated to front at somewhere around the 3000 mile interval. You can of course do the opposite of that but just remember what you’re doing each time, either way the tires will spend roughly the same amount of time at each positon.

Anymore if you take the vehicle to a tire shop that's worth a darn they measure the tread depth on each tire and rotate to match up like tread depth tires on the same axle.

Yeah.... but then I have to like... wait on them... and that sucks when I can just do it my damn self. Same reason I do my own oil lol.

For what it's worth: your tires are the only contact you have with the ground. Directional tires go front to back on the same side. Staggered tires need to be replaced and don't intermix tire brand or kind...trust the engineers that the tires should match. Non-directional tires can be cross rotated per manufacturer specs. If tread wear is going to compromise stopping distance or contact patch, new tires are cheaper than body work and/or an accident. Buy the best tire you can afford because that is where the rubber meets the road;-)

I always rotate every 4K or so. Front to back, back to front and cross. With this method, in 4 cycles the tires have been at each location. Florida roads eat tires up rather quickly due to the extreme heat. I can extend tire wear to 16-20k being diligent and proactive.

Buy a tool like this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07ZH2VWKD

That one is Ford and GM because I have both, and use it for my Chevy and Explorer. Cheap device, but works great.
You can either purchase that exact one, or buy one that works on just Ford. There are other tools like it out there, but that brand is highly recommended.

Not sure you need a reset tool anymore. I think after the rotation you just have to drive and the car will figure out where the tires are and show them correctly.
