Explorer ST Engine Knock when cold

Has anyone experienced an engine knock on the explorer st.

You should ideally not experience any knocking. Do you mean like tappet noise or literal knocking

It’s definitely knocking and as it warms up the knock goes away.

I'm not an alarmist but I had a simular thing with a first year Volvo S80. Deep thumping knock much like a rod knock. Every time I took it to the dealer it had gone away. Told them to keep the car until they figured it out and only try under a cold start. They found it was piston slap. They said about 2000 engines were built with excessive piston clearance. Got a brand new engine at 30k miles. Problem solved. Don't ignore it! Funny thing, my S 80 was built the first year Ford owned Volvo.

The dealer is all booked. I have an appointment on 1-8-21

Well after waiting a month for a appointment and then waiting 2 months for a loaner, the dealer cannot find the problem. I put in for a buyback 2 weeks ago and it was approved. Truck has been in the dealer since 3-9-21 and is still there.
