Hot takes on intakes

Adam from zfg and other respected folks agree that fenfab v2 or hsf style intakes reduce pressure loss a measurable amount before the turbo inlets compared to the factory intake.

I thoughts I read somewhere that adam has seen the velossatech widemouth scoops make a difference as well. I don’t want to put words in his mouth but he does sell them.

Curious on people’s thoughts here but my guess here is that the velossa tech widemouth scoop makes a bigger impact on the factory style air boxes since it does have a ram air effect at cruising speeds and is ducted all the way to the filter and to the turbos. With the cone filter style intakes it probably doesn’t help much other than maybe drop iat a little bit. And iat doesn’t have a drastic effect on temps past the intercooler.

would be neat to see data comparisons on factory style airboxes with the widemouth scoop compared to a fenfab v2 style intake with and without the scoop. I don’t think dyno numbers would be a fair comparison since the car isn’t moving.

I currently run the factory intake box with a k&n drop-in filter and the widemouth scoop. I just think the scoop looks cool and was easy to put in during the intercooler change

I don’t think Adam ever made that claim, I’ve always thought they were useless and that has been the general consensus on them. Maybe I missed something @ZFGracing said though.

I’ve always said the scoops make no difference so I spent the money on the S&B version which is way bigger than the VT to prove it. It’s feeding a closed S&B intake and the only thing it does is get my filters full of crap faster.

Scoop is for looks only.

I feel that unless you are full bolt on with aggressive tune, intakes will show no noticeable gains.

Not necessarily “aggressive,” but more pushing the stock turbos harder.
