Got my auto stop eliminator and after watching video on the site it shows the tech easily pulling out the first connection. Mine won’t budge. Am I missing a release tab somewhere?

iptaylm,

Maybe too late (Friday post vs. Monday reply). Push down on the 'button' that locks the plug tab in place. While depressing the button, wiggle the plug while pulling it out. It is held in place pretty good. (Once it is out, replugging and unplugging is easier for some reason.)

Be careful with this option: you can use a small screwdriver (say, 1/8" diameter shank) to raise and keep the tab off the plug and above the button. Use the shank (round) part and not the blade (end) of the screwdriver to hold the tab up as you pull the plug. I say careful because you don't want to break off the locking tab.

Thanks for posting about the Start/Stop eliminator. What brand did you get? Are you happy with it?
Considering this for our 2023 Aviator.

Black Label,

I think forum member "iptaylm" and I got the same brand. That would be Autostop Eliminator (autostopeliminator.com) and I got the "no charging pad" version.

I am delighted with the device. I had to disconnect the battery and disconnect the plug, wait 20 minutes, then connect the battery and the device to clear a "hill assist not available" message. This happened twice but now the message at start-up is "Auto stop/start off by switch" (or something similar to that).

Also, when the ASE is installed, the dash button light is on (indicating the disabled state) but you can push the button to enable autostop. If you get a 'hill assist unavailable' message, try turning autostop ON and let it work for a few stop/starts, then push the button again. Leaving it on for a while then switching it off may (that is, this is not a proven method yet) let the info center figure out that the autostop switch is working and will not affect hill start assist.

Another optin is to disable autostop using ForScan. It is a neat bit of software that lets you flash the ECM and allows you to customize things to your liking. A Bluetooth device that plugs into the OBDII port is used to connect your laptop so you can send a modified file to the ECM. There are a couple of members here who are Explorer ST experts so help is available for ForScan users here.
