Hi all, first post. I will be buying a used Explorer ST at some point in the semi-near future. Was hoping for 6 months to a year however I have found one that is EXACTLY what I am looking for with all the options I want. It is a 2022 with the Street Pack 401A.
If it's this one or another one, it will be my daily driver. It appears one of these things could be my all-in-one do everything vehicle. I have done a fair amount of research on these and am looking for opinions and more specific things/info.
Details:
We have a 19' Lance travel trailer that I use my 2004 PSD Excursion to pull, I could also pull it with this thing. Trailer max GVW 5500. It will never be near that weight though, it's closer to 4500, but still, yeah.
Plenty of room in the back to go to Menards for all kinds of everything. Not nearly as much as in my Excursion, but it seems like it'd be enough.
Mileage in the 20's, which as long as it's in the 20's, that's good enough for me. I do drive 64 miles per work day going to work and back.
Fun factor:
I have never had a NICE daily driver before, plenty of beater cars which is what I have now for my daily, and will keep using til it dies and trade off with the ST. I am a total car guy, just to set the scene I just sold my Last Call Widebody Scat Pack Challenger because it was a lemon, very long very sad story. But I also still have my '91 5.0 Mustang that is nearly perfect. Grew up with Dad's muscle cars, brother has cars, etc etc.
The point is I will be putting a bigger intercooler and a cold air kit on this thing immediately. Then a tune. Sounds like I can get a trans tune as well? That's a new one on me.
Anyways, the detail shop I use has another client with "a mild tune" on their Explorer ST and it's supposedly 480hp without even changing any physical parts. I for sure am doing cold air kit and intercooler as I said, as I will be towing a camper with this. With those parts I would imagine a HP number that starts with a 5 would be possible...? I'm guessing the mileage would go down...but would it still be in the 20's? Can you get a tune that is switchable from daily driver to performance?
I read that the 2020's had the best/stoutest rear suspension, and it got kinda sorta worse as the years went on. How is the 2022's? I will be getting a diff brace and a driveshaft carrier bearing upgrade too.
I know this is a lot of info...but given what I've said...advice, tips, issues with things I've said, things to look out for, etc? Ok thanks everyone
