They adjusted the drivers side door in some way that worked. It is much quieter now at highway speed. Many things can affect this so we’ll see in the long run.

It may not be the strut itself, but rather the strut top mount. Seems this is a common failure point on these Explorers. I think I had the same problem as you... it sounded like a dull knock when crawling at low speed in a parking lot, but no issues with ride quality. Fortunately for me, the dealer replaced front struts, mounts, and links on both sides under extended warranty at around 40k miles when I was having this issue.
Hey I know this is a little after the fact, but I'm curious which extended plan you had for this work? I just bought a 23 ST that might have this issue and I'm am debating on keeping the dealer ESP or getting the Ford ESP.

Don’t mean to but in but, I’d stick with Ford. I bought an ESP from the dealer and the first time I went to use it, they told me the part wasn’t covered! My 4WD module went and I ended up having to pay out of pocket! Needless to say I was pissed and canceled it. I opted to spend the extra $800 and got the Ford ESP. JFWIW
