I think I'm having the same issue you are experiencing. Sad part is that I've had both cats rewelded due to cracks (one through recall, and the other on my own dime). This is how mine sounds:

At least, with the optional equipment now being standard, the price tag is almost justifiable. I've told people interested in mine to buy one used, like I did. As everyone knows, the Explorers (and Expeditions for sure) aren't holding value like other brands.

Just had this recall done on the left CC. Of course the right one was cracked, so needed that one replaced as well. Mileage is just under 30k for reference.

Another update. ST still smokes after sitting. I keep buying Explorers because I really like them but this is getting nuts.

Hey guys, thought I’d join the “club” here. Had the same issue. Showed a CEL. Have about 30k for reference. Took to dealer. Had a faulty purge valve. Had it replaced. Hoping that was the source of the issue. oil catch can was recommended. They can install at the dealer.

Looks nice and clean! I'm interested as to how it is on a daily basis. I'll eventually do exhaust but I'm doing my research now of all the brands and styles.

Did you do your taillights as well? I ordered the charcoal tint but I'm wondering if it'll be too dark.
