SO i had a revelation that I thought I'd share.
I'm a bit of a data geek, and have a habit of pulling pertinent data from the computer while driving, with one of the most important being oil pressure
I have noticed that at hot idle my oil pressure is around 15psi with the oil pump control duty...
easiest answers are dirty air filter, dirty MAP sensor or skewed O2 sensor(s)
THis is what I mean by skewed: if an O2 sensor is reading data and reporting it as shifted from the actual data, (say reading leaner than it is), this will effect how the ECU maps the required fuel charge.
Having a...
just came back from a 1700 mile road trip, cruise set at 80 most of the way, tucked in behind an 18 wheeler as a wind breaker for an hour or so, saw an average MPG just over 24.
with mixed driving at home i see around 20.5 avg
i forgot to mention, i did dial the knob to eco mode while on the...
The flame retardant glove might be overkill, and it will definitely impede your dexterity with the fiddly little dipstick..
Don't forget to set the vehicle up level, and get it fully warmed first, and run it through each shift range before checking and adjusting the level.
I used a piece of...
interestingly, mine has started to have a soft knock on cool engine, low revs, gentle acceleration.
it has its best oil pressure at the point, but the tolerances are most loose too while cold..
I'm guessing an oil passage is too tight to flow the volume of oil needed to float the bearing in...
letting off the gas can make the trans upshift to drop revs and save fuel,
the stabbing the gas makes it have to down shift again, and the fluid slosh in the pan might compound the problem
i'd check fluid level first thing, then stop lifting before getting on it.. just roll into it
I like the fram titanium which is a synthetic media filter.
And yes, fram used to be a bottom budget name.
generally speaking, any synthetic fiber (usually glass) will filter better and flow better than any cellulose media filter.
not today, but the other day i put it up on stands to check and add trans fluid since the cooler is weeping fluid.
the level was low.
did i ever mention how much i despise most engineers?
well now i have
I'm hoping mine might go that way..
I bough this thing what, 2 weeks ago?
cameras recall was not done..
trans cooler is leaking, which wouldn't bother me except for the lack of a dipstick / fill tube...
and now the engine has a soft knock at low revs when under light acceleration with the...
not necessarily true.
If the oil pump makes enough pressure and volume to float a bearing with excessive clearance, it may silence a knock when the revs come up.
I appreciate this!
But after digging through that site, I am not finding much about the 3.0 ecoboost engine, and specifically, the oil system, oil pressure controls, etc.
do you have a recommendation for a more comprehensive resource?
